What can I help with?
Some of the most common complaints I am presented with include:
Digestive discomfort or disorders
The gut together with the lungs is the main interface between the outside world and our inside world. Whether or not it is functioning optimally will determine whether or not we absorb nutrients and turn them into something very useful and most times essential for our bodies. A healthy gut will also act as a barrier from external invaders such as toxins, bacteria and other pathogens. Therefore, any disturbance or symptoms of the digestive tract are important signals that one should aim to resolve. The causes and triggers for digestive disorders can vary greatly, from stress, to food intolerances to imbalanced gut flora, and the list goes on and on. By identifying the underlying contributing causes, these can be addressed and we can work towards promoting a well functioning digestive system which can, in turn, support the health of all the many other jobs your body is required to do daily.
Low energy and fatigue
Do you feel like you’re never quite running on a full tank? Perhaps you have less energy than you used to. Do you wake up feeling tired already? Do you rely on coffee and sugar to keep you going throughout the day? It is very common for people to think this is just how it is as we get older, but it doesn’t have to be. If you are experiencing any of this, chances are there is a great deal you can do with nutrition to reignite your tank engine to its full capacity! Through careful case history taking we would aim to identify the main contributing factors to your reduced energy levels and then ensure we reduce anything that is zapping your potential for energy, and provide all the right ingredients to power your batteries. We can do this for example through supporting your nervous system, ensuring optimal digestive function, balancing your blood sugar levels, promoting elimination of any toxicity that may be burdening your system and identifying a diet full of all the right fuel to suit your needs.
Low or fluctuating mood
There is extensive research now illustrating the connection between the state of our gut and the state of our brains. Though the two may not seem connected, they are dependent on each other more than one would guess. Therefore having a healthy digestive tract, as well as looking at whether you are absorbing the nutrients necessary for a healthy nervous system and are maintaining balanced blood sugar levels, is necessary when addressing mood problems.
Stress and anxiety
Many of us live a life of high demands, juggling many different important aspects of our lives. This can lead to people feeling stressed, overworked, and dissatisfied with their work-life balance. In order to sustain this, we can work to avoid foods and lifestyle practices that place an additional burden on the nervous and endocrine systems, and instead make lifestyle and dietary suggestions that aim to support your body and mind in meeting our modern day demands.
Hormonal imbalances and thyroid disorders
If you have an existing diagnosis of any reproductive system disorders, we can certainly make good use of nutrition to support any goals you may be working towards with regards to hormonal balancing. Equally, you may not have a diagnosis but feel that something isn’t quite right in terms of symptoms such as PMS or irregular cycles, or with regards to thyroid health in terms of feeling fatigue, gaining weight, experiencing hair loss or feeling low or frequently cold. In this case as well as recommending some testing, there is much we can do through dietary protocols to promote increased hormonal balance, working alongside any necessary medical input.
There is virtually no health condition that would not in some way benefit from nutritional support alongside appropriate medical intervention. As well as those listed above, I can offer nutritional advice around:
- Weight Loss
- Diabetes or Pre-diabetic State/Metabolic Syndrome
