Working with Me
As a Naturopathic Nutritionist, my aim is to work with you to support you in achieving your goals around health. Through a thorough case history, we will identify the likely triggers and underlying drivers of whatever symptoms you may be experiencing, and then establish a plan through which these can be addressed. We will ensure that all dietary recommendations are in keeping with your cultural, ethical or religious dietary requirements, and together we can problem solve ways to overcome any perceived obstacles you might have to making dietary/lifestyle changes.
Much of the training I have received is based around the Functional Medicine model which looks at addressing the root causes of a condition rather than simply firefighting the symptoms. Conventional medicine is precious and invaluable when it comes to acute care, and we are, I believe, very fortunate to have access to medical expertise that in critical conditions can be the difference between life or death. However, more and more conditions nowadays are of a chronic nature and require a different approach that looks at the body as a whole and seeks to identify causes of disease. Equally, many of the most widespread diseases (heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, etc.) are largely preventable, and insufficient emphasis is placed on this in mainstream healthcare.
I am not a doctor, and I do not make diagnoses. However the work I do and the naturopathic suggestions I make are in keeping with the above approach. This means that the consultation process will be extensive in order to get all the information I require to make targeted suggestions for you. I may also, where relevant, suggest further testing if I feel more information is required. Some of this testing may be available on the NHS and some may have to be private laboratory testing. Where needed I will be sure to liaise with your GP or any Consultants whose care you may be under, in order to ensure best practice. The main tool I use to support health is food. However, often nutritional supplements may be indicated in the short or medium-term as the body may need a little extra support while its healing mechanisms kick into place. If you are on any medication I will ensure that all recommendations made are safe and that there is no risk of nutrient-drug interactions.
Ultimately, we will work on the health goals that you identify as important to you, and this may involve looking at a variety of physiological processes. My very ultimate goal is to provide you with all the nutritional education and guidance so that once the goals have been achieved, you are empowered to make the best healthful choices for yourself.
